Full Field of Ten Set for $60,000 Klassy Briefcase Stakes

Jewel of a Cat has been tabbed the morning line favorite in the wide open field at odds of 7-2 for trainer Benjamin Perkins, Jr. A five-year-old daughter of Wildcat Heir, she has been on the board in twelve of her eighteen starts and is a five-time winner. She was fourth in the Klassy Briefcase Stakes last year and will be trying to earn her second stakes victory of the year. Last time out, she was fifth in The Very One Stakes and will break from the rail under jockey Paco Lopez.

Lady Shipman stepping up against older rivals

Second choice at 4-1 on the morning line is Lady Shipman for trainer Kathleen O’Connell. A sophomore daughter of Midshipman, she has won five of her seven starts and is a three-time stakes winner. Last time out, she won the Crank it Up Stakes in front-running fashion as the favorite and will be taking on older rivals after racing primarily against age-restricted competition. Eduardo Nunez will be aboard and they will break from post position two.

Stormy Novel returning off five-month break

Also in the field at morning line odds of 8-1 is Stormy Novel for trainer Jason Servis. A four-year-old daughter of Bernardini, she has won four of her thirteen starts and was a minor stakes winner last year as a three-year-old. She has been on the shelf since finishing sixth in the Barbara Fritchie Handicap (G2) in February and has clocked a recent bullet workout. Elvis Trujillo will be in the irons and they will break from post position four.
