Intriguing Field Lined up for $200,000 Grade II Saratoga Special

The $200,000 Grade II Saratoga Special Stakes August 10 at the Spa follows the Grade II Adirondack and features a field of eleven in the six and a half furlong event on the main track for two year-old colts.

In a race that appears to be wide open the Anthony Dutrow  trained I Spent It is the lukewarm 7/2 favorite on the morning line and will break from the rail under jockey Javier Castellano.  I Spent It is one for one after breaking his maiden July 2 at Belmont in his debut.  The son of 2010 Kentucky Derby winner Super Saver, I Spent It figures to easily handle the stretchout from six to six and a half furlongs.

Nonna's Boy better with experience

Nonna’s Boy (4/1) gained valuable experience in his last start, finishing fourth in the Grade III Sanford Stakes at Saratoga July 19.  Getting a feel for the Saratoga dirt and having already faced stakes horses, Nonna’s Boy figures to improve for trainer Todd Pletcher whose reputation for excellence with two year-olds is unsurpassed.

Sanford second and third place finishers return

Cinco Charlie (9/2) also exits the Sanford where he tired to finish third after racing in contention throughout the race.  The Steve Asmussen trained colt is two for three in his career including a stakes win in the Grade III Bashford Manor Stakes at Churchill Downs in June.  The second place finisher in the Sanford, Mr. Z (5/1), returns for trainer D. Wayne Lukas.  His effort in the Sanford might even be more flattering as he was forced to check around the turn before being bumped in the stretch.
