Ju Ju EyeBalls Looks Just Smashing

Speedy Maryland-bred filly Ju Ju Eyeballs is starting to turn some heads at Monmouth Park, after claiming her second-straight stakes win at the New Jersey racetrack this past Sunday. Sent off as the 6-1 third choice in the $60,000 Just Smashing Stakes, the Gators N Bears filly, from the breeding operation of Donald and Taffy Lutz, split rivals at the top of the stretch and pulled away for a 5 ¼-length score under a hand ride from jockey Paco Lopez.

The Smashing makes it three straight at Monmouth

In mid June, Ju Ju Eyeballs (named for a line in Beatles song) announced her presence on the Monmouth stakes scene with a 1 ¼-length win in the Crank It Up Stakes, also for three-year-old fillies sprinting on the dirt.  Prior to that she had won at the allowance level at Monmouth, and now holds a five-race win streak for 2013, after she finished third in her season debut at Gulfstream in January. Ju Ju Eyeballs now has six wins from 10 lifetime starts, and has finished in the money in eight of her races.

Follows the lead of Change in Command

It has been an impressive past couple weeks for the offspring of Gators N Bears, as last week his Maryland-bred colt Change of Command set the course record for the mile on the Monmouth Turf, on the way to winning the $75,000 Elkwood Stakes. The win also capped a big weekend for jockey Lopez, who on Saturday had ridden to an upset win in the Jersey Derby on 12-1 Hard Enough. He had to survive a short enquiry after the Just Smashing, but ultimately notched win 113 for the year so far.
