On Saturday at Del Mar, the featured race is the 30th running of the $100,000 Cary Grant Stakes. Restricted to horses either bred in California or sired by California-based stallions, the seven-furlong race has drawn a field of eight colts and geldings.

The lightly-raced and undefeated Red Outlaw has been installed as the morning line favorite at 2-1 for trainer Peter Miller. A perfect six for six, the three-year-old gelded son of Tribal Rule was last seen earning his fourth consecutive stakes victory in the Uniformity Stakes on the turf at Santa Anita. He has been training steadily since that race and will have regular rider Edwin Maldonado aboard from post position four.

Big Macher dropping down after Breeders' Cup

Big Macher is the second choice at 5-2 on the morning line and is getting a break in class after finishing ninth in the Breeders’ Cup Sprint (G1). Trained by Richard Baltas, the four-year-old gelded son of Beau Genius won a pair of graded stakes over the summer, including the prestigious Bing Crosby (G1) at Del Mar. Rafael Bejarano, who  rode him to a win against state-bred company in January, will be back aboard from post six.

Soi Phet trying to return to winnin form

Also in the field at 4-1 on the morning line is Soi Phet for trainer Leonard Powell. A six-year-old gelded son of Tizbud, Soi Phet has won eight times over the course of his career including multiple minor stakes races. He was last seen finishing fifth in the Big Bear at Santa Anita and has three wins so far this year. Kent Desormeaux, aboard for his win in the Los Alamitos Mile in September, will be back aboard and they will break from post five.
